One interesting aspect of 50s noir, especially when dealing with corruption among municipal institutions, is how it localized its settings - from Anywhere USA (such as in 'The Street With No Name') to films like 'New York Confidential' or 'The Phenix City Story,' which are explicitly about real cities.
